Gino Kenny TD welcomes new express 68X Dublin Bus service from Newcastle to City Centre.

68_busIn April of this year People Before Profit Dublin Mid West TD Gino Kenny initiated a petition to Dublin bus calling on the company to review the 68 bus service from Newcastle to the City Centre.

Hundreds of people signed the petition which called on Dublin Bus to review the 68 bus service. Of particular concern and the one issue that was raised numerous times by residents in the area was the bus service in the morning time. People Before People representatives Gino Kenny and Cllr Madeleine Johansson along with Newcastle residents met with Dublin Bus management in April to discuss the issue. Dublin Bus gave a commitment that they would review the service particularly the early morning service into the City Centre. Yesterday Dublin Bus announced that a new 68X express service will be introduced on the Monday 17th October. The new service will leave Newcastle at 7.30 am and terminate in Fleet Street Monday to Friday.

Gino Kenny TD said “ I welcome this good news from Dublin Bus. Its good that Dublin Bus listened to the residents of Newcastle in changing the morning service. Many commuters leaving Newcastle by bus where struggling to get into town before 9am. In some cases it was taken nearly two hours to get from Newcastle into the city centre. Hopefully with this new service and a review of the 68 bus service in the new year people residents will use the service more frequently in the future
