An important bye-election is scheduled for Dublin Bay South in early July. The People Before Profit candidate is Brigid Purcell, a young woman who hails from Ringsend.
She has worked in the service industry for nearly a decade, as a waitress, a bartender, a cleaner, a kitchen porter, a cashier. She has stood on the Debenham’s picket and supported ESB strikers. She is exactly the sort of young working-class woman, who is not represented in the Dail.
Others talk about a locked-out generation – but Brigid Purcell lives it. Condemned to a life of high rents and unable ever to afford a house.
People Before Profit is the genuine left party in this election. We will not sell out like Labour or the Greens because we will never back a Fianna Fail or Fine Gael coalition.
An election campaign costs money. Brigid Purcell will not be running golf tournaments to collect big donations from the wealthy. She is relying on you to rush through the finance.
Every poster, every leaflet, every social media advertisement costs money and we desperately need it.
